Snakes, My enemies

 Snakes are shocking,

They leave me breathless

Each time I set my eyes on them, I am restless

But do you think the fear is pointless?

I wonder what they are here to do.

Snakes wake me from my beautiful dream and bring me nightmares

The Snakes walk in group like rebels

I see them with weapons as if they’re about to attack

I see them point fingers at me,

One of the Snakes opens its eyes wide as if to bewitch me

I see myself being eaten alive

“Kill this brat and take away her life”

Hearing this makes my heart beat faster

For, my soul has disappeared

I have lost my spirit to my enemies

Snakes aren’t my friend,

For whomever shock me

Are my enemies in disguise!!!!

This was a dream!!!

The Revenge: The Stranger Within

Chapter 5

“Cherish, Cherish Williams, where are you?” Chandelle called.

“I have been in my room ever since you were on that phone. So who was it? Seems like you knew the person because you guys talked about twenty minutes. You wanna share? Cherish asked impatiently.

“The only way I’m gonna discuss anything right now is…….. Hmm… You know what, never mind.”

“Are you gonna talk or not. Like I told you earlier on tonight, I don’t want to talk about anything. If you are so serious about hearing nonsense from someone, it’s not going to be me. It’s definitely not gonna be me. Do you understand every word that’s coming out of my mouth, Chandelle Nelson?”

“I don’t still understand why you are jumping and yelling. Delle responded calmly. I mean, am right here, am sure I will be able to hear you clearly when you speak lower than you are right now. It has not gotten to us being sentimental about the simplest things like talking about ourselves.” She explained.

You don’t have to share if you can’t. I’m off to bed.” Cherish said as she walks pass Delle to go to her room.

“Good then, Cherish M. Williams. Goodnight. You wanna sleep, hell go on and sleep. I don’t care anymore either. Whether you want to talk or not.” For the first time, Delle angrily yells back at Cherish.

When Cherish heard Delle calling her by her last name, she pauses consciously and began walking back to the living room, where Delle is now sitting in one of the wooden rocking chairs near the fireplace.

“What did you call me? She asked shockingly.

“I said goodnight Cherish Williams, yeah, I said it. What huh, what, you gonna deny it now? Isn’t that your real last name? All these years; you have always lied to me about your family. I thought I was your family, your only one.

Cherish was shaking at this point, she became anxious as if to shut Delle up. “Now wait on, hold on Delle, you are going too far with this. I don’t know where you get your information from. If you wanna argue with me, why not say it without you dissing me. Am sick of this.”

Delle crossed her arms, looking at Cherish expectantly as she changed her seat. “Well, if you are sick of this, then why ask me to share, Ms. Williams. “

“We need to talk. I want us to have this talk and get over with it. So, why did you call me by Williams? Who told you about that name Delle?

“Well, what about you start telling me about the real you first,” Delle demanded.
Because the last time I check, strange people start calling our house number, and saying that they were calling for Cherish Williams. When I redialed the number earlier on today, a lady answered the phone; and without really knowing whom she was speaking with, she decided to open her mouth. She said some things about you running off to college and never returning home; how your parents love you so much and never ceased to worry about your whereabouts. She continued.

“I don’t believe that. I don’t think she was referring to me Delle. Cherish said frighteningly.

“Oh, so you think am stupid or something? What you take me for? Delle asked clamorously.

“C’mon sis… You know we can discuss this situation without us yelling over each other. Fine, I’m ready to open up to you. Cherish said.

“I know I’m giving you headaches, but you know that’s why our best friends. Come over here and have a seat so we can talk. We will talk about everything, no lying. Just honesty.” She continued calmly.

Cherish became very calm after being yelled at by Delle.

“Hey, come here, sit next to me. Let’s talk. Delle invited Cherish as she opens her arms as if a mother is calling for her child.

Cherish quickly moved to where her friend was sitting, on the rocking chair.

“Delle, so you really wanna do this? Cherish asked. ‘I mean, I thought you knew me enough to believe one retards you spoke with on the phone? Do you wanna question my honesty and my characteristics right now? Are you freaking serious? The questions kept dripping from cherish mouth back to back.

At this point, Delle was wearied out. “Look hon, you don’t have to do this. We do not have to do this. I’m not gonna force you to talk to me. We can definitely leave things as they are. Am tired. Am seriously tired. You are not a child for me to keep pushing and nurturing. I can only do the best I can. So it’s either we talk today or never.”

“Fine, fine, God dammit.” Cherish yelled as she pushed Delle over to sit. We can introduce ourselves like we just met. Let’s start over again. Let’s go back to the ole days, where we first met in college. Would you? She asked

“Well, yeah, duh, I would if I were you. We just met, now tell me about yourself. Delle suggested.

“My name is Cherish, Cherish M. Williams; daughter of Crystal and Jean Williams. You know, I was the only child of my mother. She always loved me and supposedly provided me with everything I needed and desired. We were not considered billionaires, but my parents had so much money to waste.”

“Wow, so you a daughter of a rich family, huh? Delle interrupted.

“Would you shut up and let me talk? She demanded.

“Fine, go ahead. Delle said.

“Thank you. Anyways, where was I? Cherish asked.

“You were talking about y’all wasting money. You said your parents were rich and had nowhere to spend the money, but waste it on your black ass. Aha.. am just playing girl. Please continue.

“Shut up. Well, like I was saying, being the only child for a mother is sometimes intimidating. She would want you to be the best in everything you do. She wanted me to do this, that, those, these, and blah blah, blah. Cherish was nervous at this point.

“What the hell eh. What are you saying with the these, those, this, that, the blah, blah? Can you speak English. I mean tell me in details, isn’t it why we are talking? Delle complained.

“Ah.. Sigh.. Dammit Delle, you’re so annoying sometimes. What I meant is that my mother always wanted me to get good grades, read five books a month, go to the library on the weekends instead of partying and hanging out in the street. She had so many rules to comprehend.

“And that was too hard for you? Delle asked confusingly.

“Well, yes it was. I had freedom, but not the kind of freedom I desired.?

“So, what’s your definition of being a free child?

“Ugh Delle. I could just choke you right now with your silly questions. Cherish shook her head as she bit her lips tightly. “Don’t act like you do not understand my kind views on freedom. I mean from the last time I checked, you had more than freedom as a youth. Your ass went everywhere and hung out with whomever you wanted, if I could remember correctly.”

“Yeah, whatever. At least you were rich. Anyways, please educate me more on your freedom. Delle joked.

“My parents never gave me that freedom. Like going out to clubs, the movies with my boys and opening up my own account.

“How old were you, to own an account and go out with some dumb boys by yourself? Weren’t you like six? Delle interrupted once more while laughing.

“No..I was not six, you idiot. I was sixteen. Old enough to have my personal money and hang out with my guys. Cherish yelled defensively.

“I felt like my mother was too strict and my dad didn’t care. He always gave me seventy dollars for allowances and when I asked for more, he would say, “honey, I’m saying up for your college bills. I don’t want you to pay for loans and other expanse.” Cherish exclaimed. So then I would lie to my mom that am broke, and she would give me another sixty-five. I had to about hundred and five dollars for two weekends.

“Wait, you were mad about that? You were sixteen, had that much money for two weeks and you’re telling me you dislike that? When I was sixteen, the only thing I could afford was a ninety-nine cent product.” Delle interrupted frustratingly. Anyways, why didn’t you return, what are your reasons for running off? Cherish Richie. You know what, from now on I will call you Ms. Richie cause you are rich. Delle continued, still being silly.

“My parents helped me apply to colleges and during move in day, my mother and my nanny took me to my dorm. They were really helpful and bought everything I needed for that semester. To make a long story short, she still treated me like a child. She wanted me to do the things I used to do when I was at home; No partying, hanging with friends on a daily basis, clubbing and the wild college fun stuff. The only difference was, she opened my personal account loaded with lots of money. Like what’s the point of being good in college and sticking my head in the books when am rich. They had the money so why torture me. Eventually, I stopped going home for the weekends, ceased from calling my mother twice a day like she recommended. And by the time I realized things, it was already in the middle of the semester. I felt like I didn’t need my parents because I got everything I want… Money and popularity.

“Wow, wow, am impressed. I’m extremely impressed with your phenomenal story. Delle said sarcastically.

“What’s so funny. You never serious. Never ever serious with nothing. That’s exactly what made you more annoying back in the days. I don’t know how I put with your gusty ass back in college. Stupid idiot. Look at your silly self. Cherish responded jokingly.

“Remember how we met? Delle asked. Yeah, it was funny. Funny story. Funny friendship, but in a good way. We met in the dining hall. She answered herself.

“Of course I remember. You were so looking around like you were lost. Aha… You had no one to sit with. I was walking with my girls and I felt bad, so I called you up. Cherish said. “Damn girl, you were a loner. She laughed.

“First of all, I was not a loner. I had friends. A lot of good friends, when you met me in the dining hall, it was a bad day for me and decided to be alone. And the only reason I went to sit to with you and your stupid, ratchet friends was because you were nice to me. Delle defended herself.

“Okay Chandelle Nelson, you plead has been accepted. Is there anything else you want me to tell you?

“Well, yes… so what happened to your parents do you know? I mean, don’t get me wrong, but it has been a long time since you saw your parents and you’ve never once mention them to me. Don’t you miss them, Cherish?

“I have told you all you need to know right now. So keep it that way. I told you everything you need to know and the rest, is my problem and not yours. What you don’t know what hurt you? Cherish explained angrily. By the way, I know everything about you, but I forgot about what you told me about your parents. What did you say happened to them again? She asked.

“I told a long time ago what had happened to my parents and the rest of my family. I hate talking about it because it reminds me of things I despise to remember. I detest my past and everything in it. Delle exclaimed as tears stream down her chin.

“Am sorry Delle, I don’t mean any harm. Those tears… I-I, hmm, didn’t mean to bring them back. Cherish said apologetically.

“It’s fine. I will tell you again if you wanna be reminded. My mother was a wonderful woman. She gave me everything I needed, but not what I wanted. She was a middle school teacher and didn’t make that much. And my dad was never around. She basically took care of me and my little sister all alone. She told me and sister that life took him away. And asked us not to ever mention him again. Years after I moved to college, she got sick and died from cancel. Delle explained.

So what happened to your sister?

“She was taken away. My aunt took her in. Since then, I have not seen my sister. Sometimes I wish life could bring back my daddy. It has been hard since I lost my mother and little sister. After telling this sad story, She busted out crying.

“Oh, am so, so sorry honey. Come here, hug me Delle. Let me hold you sis.” Cherish opened her arms wide and received Delle into her arms as she wiped the tears in her eyes.

“I love you Cherish Williams” Delle smiled lightly.

“I love you too, honey.” Cherish said as she hugged Delle

The Revenge: Close to Home

Chapter four

9 AM

It has been three straight weeks since Chandelle was admitted to Collegeville Emergency and it has been quite tiring for Cherish; not being to able eat, sleep, and rested well. She went out to get some McDonald’s a few hours ago, hoping that when she comes back, there would be a good news about her best friend’s condition. The hospital was really quiet and peaceful to the point that she got lost in the silence.

But after a few moments, her phone began to ring. Sigh dammit whose calling now. “Hello. Oh, hello, who’s this? Whom am I speaking with? “Oh yes, this is Cherish… Thank God… Oh my goodness am so excited… Am so happy…….. Praise the lord I get to finally go home. Okay, thanks doc. I will do just that. Alright, sure I will wait for you before packing up. Thanks once again.” It was Doctor Chinie on the phone wanting to tell her about Delle’s condition.

“Cherish… Cherry?”… It was the voice of Delle. “Oh, my God, you are finally awake, the medication is really working now. Am so happy Delle. Lord, you can’t even imagine how much I miss you. I have been crying my eyes out.

“But why Cherish? Why have you been crying, it’s not like I die or something. As you can see I’m fine now so lets go on home and spend some quality time together.” Said Delle. “Okay, that is alright with me. Give me a few seconds so I could confide in Doctor Chinie. He wanted me to let him know if you were awake before packing our belongings. I will be right back. Am going to call him now.” Cherish assured Delle. “Sure, but be quick cause am really hungry girl, Delle reminds her friend as she rushed out to get the doc.

Cherish rapidly ran out of the room to get the doctor. At this point, she was over excited about her best friend’s recovery. It was time to finally go home and get out of this smelly hospital. “La, la la la, yea, she began to sing a happy song but stopped when she reached Dr. Chinie’s office. “Knock, knock, Mr. Chinie may I come in please?

“Oh yes of course; is everything okay? He asked.

“Uh huh, I-I hmm… wanted to let you know that we will be leaving soon. Chandelle is well now.
Dr. Chinie smiled as he packed some information he collected for Delle. “Well, well isn’t that a great news miss Cherry. Ha.. hmm, I meant Cherish. Anyways, before we head out, I need to tell you to be very patient with Delle. She feels better now, but you see, the cut in her might have some effects on her behavior for a while. Do you understand me?”

“My God. What do you mean doc?”
“What I meant is that you need to take good care of her for the next three weeks or so. Be patient with her. Okay?

“Alright I will doc. I promise. See you later and thank you for everything,” Cherish said gratefully.

“Later sweetheart. Take care.”

6:45 PM

Cherish gathered the information which was laying down on Dr. Chinie’s desk, open the door, and began walking towards room 32. “Oh, Delle hun it is time to go home.” She yelled.

The two best friends gather their things and took the cab home; the home that was destroyed by Ryan, the avenger.

“Okay ladies, where are we heading to?” the driver asked politely as he stretches his head to make eye contact with Delle; who was sitting in the back seat next to Cherish.

“We are going home. The address is 46 North road.” Cherish replied as she pulled Delle closer to her.
“Sweet. We should get there in less than 20 minutes. Is your friend okay? Just wondering.” The driver was trying to interact.
“Ah, yeah…hmm, she’s fine. I guess she’s just a little tired. Cherish replied.

“Ohhh, look, look Cherish we’re home, we’re home. Delle’s eyes widen as they approached their address. We are freaking home. Home, sweet home.” She exclaimed excitedly.

“This is it ladies, we are here. Hold on, let me help you get your belongings out of the trunk.” The driver who was 5’5 picks up their things and carries them on their doorstep.

“You see Cherish, am not sure, but a few hours ago, a gentle breeze rustled through the flowers that stood gallantly on the porch. The open air, so rare and fleeting in the streets, smelled of orange blossoms and freshly baked apple pie. Or maybe that was my imagination. Either way, I wished I could pack up the fragrance and bring it along with us. I really do cause this place does not smell, feel or look like the one I wish to be in anymore.”Delle said sadly.

“I know how you mean Delle. Look at this place, half of the glass on the table are broken, and damn look the kitchen and the door. How come we didn’t notice it when we walked in. There’s a big hole right in the middle of it.
“Anyways, I should make something so we can eat. Is that okay with miss Delle?”
“Sure, am hungry as hell Cherry. Delle answered emphasizing the words.

“Why you trying to sound like a dude silly willy, Delly.
“Hahaha, very funny. Who are you calling willy Delly? Cherry fruity. Delle responded jokingly.

“I miss those days when we used to call each other silly names. I really do. Don’t you miss those memories, fruity cherry?

Yeah of course I do, but things have not changed yet sweetie. You know it’s just life. Things happen to people all the time, you get attack by strangers and people we involve with. We just gotta learn how to move forward from our pasts. And you know what happened last month with that creep is part of the past. So let’s focus on our future and life live. Do you understand what am saying Delle?

“Yeah, yeah, yeah, whatever you say mother.” Delle declaimed sarcastically.

“Pardon me? Cherish was confused of Delle’s respond to everything she has just told her. “Are you okay? I mean, did I say anything wrong?”

Delle ignored Cherish’s questions and instead she declared for them to talk about life and their family background. I think we should talk about deep stuff. Like our parents and what had happened to them. Like why aren’t your parents ever around? I mean I have never seen neither talk about them. What happen to your mommy and daddy Cherish?”

“Look Delle, am not ready for all this talk right now. I can’t deal with this. I won’t sit here and talk about people who are irrelevant to me and my life. I have learned to live with or without them. Why didn’t you ask me before, but all of a certain you wanna talk about my God damn parents. Why you so concern now, huh?”

“Am freaking concern cause I wanna know okay. Why is that hard for you huh. How do you feel living with someone and having no idea who their parents are and what happen to them?

All of a certain, Cherish blood started boiling, “Well, don’t be concerned anymore Delle. It is not by force to know about them. We always been doing just fine without my parents or yours so why bring them up now sweetie. You don’t need to know, and that’s that.”

Delle became extremely hurt hearing these words pouring out of her best friend’s mouth. Yeah, you are right, I don’t need to know. It’s fine. It’s really fine. I get it.

……..I umm…I…I’m really sorry, I don’t mean to scream at you or anything.

“That’s okay. As of now, I wanna eat so we are done talking about this for now. Delle said sorrowfully as tears stream down her eyes.

There was a long, awkward silence when the shrill scream of the telephone cut the silence like a runaway train heading for a broken bridge, wheels shrieking on a twisted metal rails. Cherish jumped and crosses to answer the house phone which was located next to the dining table as it continues ringing.

“Cherish Williams speaking, how may I assist you?…………………hello, hmm hello, is anyone on the line? Who the hell is calling and cannot answer back? Damn you then. Idiot.” After a long pause, she threw the phone back on the holder.

“Who was it sweetie? Is everything alright?” Delle asked worriedly.
“It’s nothing, just some idiots calling people’s house and hanging up. I think they must be bored. I don’t have time for this right now. Cherish replied angrily.

She was just about to go to the living room when the telephone started ringing once again. She glares at it for a moment; deciding whether to ignore it or answer it. Before she could decide, the phone stopped ringing. “Oh, thanks goodness.” she exclaimed.

Unfortunately, the sound of the ring started for the third times. She picks it up and there was a traditional song “Long John”, sounding like something electronic. She listened to it for about two minutes and hung up.

“Okay am tired,” She complained. Whoever calls this line again will be cursed out.”

“Maybe it’s a long distance call. Am sure the call must be really important for them to keep calling back. Allow me to redial the number. Delle grabs the phone and redialed the number. After the fifth rang, a lady voice appeared on the line.

“The Williams’ resident, where are you calling from and how may I be of help to you?” ah….ah..ahhhh. di..did you say the Williams’ resident?” Delle’s mouth drops open and became very anxious. Well, someone called my line a few times but they refused to say a word.”

“I was calling for Cherish Williams. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Williams.
Delle glanced around the dining quick to make sure Cherish has gone to her room.

“I think I can be of help, you can talk to me.
“But who am I speaking with?” the lady asked curiously.

“This is Dell………this is Cherish, ma’am.” She was about to say her name but changed her mind and identify herself as Cherish.

“Oh my God, my God, Cherish. My God. Baby why? Why all these years. You went on to college and never for once came back home? We have always been kind to you. But then you vanished from your parents’ lives just because you hated them. They were really nice to you baby. Your parents loved you unconditionally. They never stopped talking about you. But I’m sorry to tell you that they are no more. Goodbye. Talking about them sadden my heart.“

“Wait, Wait’ don’t hang up I want to know what happen to them please.” Delle yelled through the phone. “You know what happened to them. You should ask yourself Cherish M. Williams. Goodbye.” The lady hung up before Delle could say another word.

The Revenge: Live or Die

Chapter three

Medical Emergency
5:30 P.M

“Pardon me, sir, do you know where room 32 is? Am here to see my friend.” Cherish asked one of the doctors as she walked quietly towards the nearest desks.

“Yes, how may I assist you?’ he answered while rearranging the documentation in his hands.

“Is there any way I can see my best friend, she was admitted here a few hours ago, but I was told she was in room 32. I want to see her, do you mind showing me the way there please.”

Go straight ahead. And take a right after the second blue door. You will find room #32 on the left. But I believe she’s still asleep due to the treatments she was given. By the way I’m Doctor Chinie. I will be in my office if you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to stop by.”

“Oh, thank you a lot Dr. Chinie.” She said appreciatively.

Room #32
5:55 PM

Cherish walks attentively as she stares deeply into each room she passes by. When arrived at the door, she stops and knees on the floor, closes her eyes and began to pray. “Hey big guy… Sigh… God am about to enter this room to see my friend Chandelle, please father let her be up and okay. I don’t want her to be in pain or feel anymore discomfort. I really would not know how to react if she is in so much pain. By the way, thank you so much for protecting her and not allowing that creep to kill her. I love her so much and you know she is the only one I have since my parents went away. Amen.”

After praying, she opens the door, pulls the curtains and quickly ran to where Delle is laying down.

“Hey sweetie, are you all right? Wow…hmm am so happy to see you sis. I miss you a lot, I won’t lie. I can’t do anything without you around. The past hours have been the most terrifying moments of my life; you remember when we first moved into our dormitory together, in that triple room but kicked our roommate out? Ha, yeah, I do too. Those were the days. Where we would disturb our suite mates and didn’t give a crap? We would drink all night on one of those weekends and share secrets, fears, and call ourselves dumb asses… Chandelle honey, are you okay?” but there was no answer.

Cherish sat on the hospital bed next to Chandelle for about two hours gazing into her face, searching for signs, hoping she would just wake up, give her a tight hug and say“let’s go home Cherish; am feeling good now.” unfortunately, none of that happened. Another hour later, Cherish fell asleep.

“Hey, there may I come? I need to make sure that our little friend here is doing okay. There was no reply so Dr. Chinie went inside and tapped Cherish on the shoulder so she could wake up.
“Oh hey Doc, how are you? Do you mind checking to see if my friend is well.? She asked quietly. “Of course, that’s why am here for, have you eaten today miss?” He replied.

“No Dr. Shine I didn’t really want to eat anything right now. Am just worry about Delle.”
“Well, you got to move over a little so I can do some test on her.” He instructed her.

Cherish took five steps away from the patient’s bed and let the doctor do his job. But her eyes certainly widen up as he held one of Delle’s hands out with the palm facing upwards and the elbow slightly bent, places his index (first) and middle fingers on the inside of her wrist, and presses two fingers lightly on her skin as if to feel her pulse. “Hmm… um.” Then he stopped and began shaking his head sadly.

“What is it? Doc, what is it? Tell me the truth now. Please tell let me know. Oh, good lord. I just can’t imagine losing her now. You cannot do this to me now? Why?”

“I’m very sure that with God all will be well. But you got to keep her in prayers because as of this moment, she doesn’t seem to be reacting to any of the medicine or vaccinations.”

“Are you sure she will be alright doc?” She asks as tears stream down her cheeks. “Yes, but miss where are your parents? I require a medical history or some sort of information on your friend.”

I don’t really know, sir. I mean I never actually get to meet Delle’s parents and we didn’t have the time to deeply talk about them. Is there a problem sir? She continued on.

“Maybe. Just maybe child… hmm but don’t worry too much, we will do our best to help her live. Dr. Chinie reassured Cherish who is now sitting on the bare floor with her face buried in her palms as if to hide her tears from being seen by the doctor. “Keep an eye on your friend and please do notify me or other nurses nearby if anything.” He instructed.

“I won’t hesitate doc. Thanks a lot.”

Mama Africa (Culture Shock Pt 2)

So what comes to your Mind when you
think about URI SAWA, The Student Org?

When I think about the Student Alliance for the Welfare of Africa (SAWA),
I think about placing our continent under a positive light for all who study at URI and the community. We do this by letting our voices to be heard, we portray our voices through different type of events to help people understand our culture.
When I think about SAWA, I think of inspiring a tender compassion within everyone towards the issues affecting the continent and her people.

All my life, I have heard so many negativities about Africa. The news is always teeming with bad things about this continent; that Africa is wrought with civil wars, Africa is riven with racism, it’s a breeding ground for exotic tropical diseases, famine, corruption,
and most of all, major African cities are crime ridden.

Do they realize that Africa is not all about crime, poverty, and hunger?
They never mention how Africa has a richness of culture and a geographical beauty!

Africa, most people call this place a country
I simply look upon them all then laugh due to their ignorance and folly

Don’t you know that the beauty in Africa is the beauty in the world?
No other place can ever be compared to this nature
Because no one has the authority to put a queen & surveillance in the same cage
For they are far beyond compare

Please do have a seat and I will tell you what you are missing on
Africa, a continent where every beautiful creatures visit and they are content
The mother of all nations
Don’t tell me you do not know yourself
Don’t tell me you have no idea where your ancestors and parents are originally from

Africa is the world’s second largest continent; known for its beautiful, colorful clothing and its history of incredible works of art.
Our mother is blessed with many natural wonders and amazing tourist destinations of which the Lake Victoria is one of them.
She forms the largest lake in Africa and the second largest freshwater lake in the world

Africa is my everything
Africa is my nurturer; she fed me when there is/was nothing to hold me down
She is the main reason I am here, that you’re here and we are all here today
She is the habitation of the human species;
This is why we always run back into her arms when in need of survival.

They portray Africa as the place
Of the poor, the villages and uncivilized surveillants

They say we walk and talk with the animals
That we have no type of resources or political science
But have you think twice about this continent?
That Mama Africa is the place of the kings, Queens, princes and princesses?

Maybe not, maybe you have not heard so much extraordinary things about Africa
But have you heard that Africa is our one and only mother…?
The mother of all nature?
The mother who puts her life on the line for us?
Instead of you being on the social networks gossiping,
Whispering and giggling about the negativities you’ve learned
On the television, why not try being a detective for a while and investigate
Maybe, just maybe you’ll gather all the significance information you need to know about your mama, Mama Africa.
That she is full of countries and cities that are surrounded by lights
Shining bright as the stars at night!

Why listen to the media,
When we can just allow our intuition guide us?

Africa (Mother Nature), has always been there to find solutions
to all our implications
And made us happy when we were/are sad
But gazing at the world at this moment, we might need more than motivation
We might need medication combined with inspiration!
I don’t know about you, but I love Mama Africa

“This is not over Cherish, I’m not done here. I will come back for you no matter where you go. Hahaha, okay you are one lucky girl for today.” Ryan began screaming angrily. You should be happy cause these idiots called cops are here to save your ass. But mark this day that Ryan will be back.” He continued while the cops drag him into the car.

“Sir you have to shut your mouth and sit in there quietly before I lose my patient.” One of the cops told Ryan as he slammed the door.

After arresting Ryan and throwing him into the car, one of the cops made his way to where Cherish was sitting while the other called the ambulance.

“So you are Cherish, am I right Miss?” at this point, she was shaking, and couldn’t control anything on her body. The whole situation from morning when she was talking to her best friend, and to when Chandelle got the letter until now. She has been thinking and crying her eyes out and having suicidal thoughts in her head. “I’m Sheriff Donald and I’m here to help you, so please work with me ma’am” Sheriff Donald disrupted.

“Is my friend okay? She is in the house, she got stabbed, I don’t know if she is gonna be okay. Can you help me please, please save my friend Chandelle, please Sir Donald? Cherish continued. She was wasted in tears and emotionally broken down.

“Alright Donald, the ambulance is on the way, is she the only person involved? Sheriff Juan asked. “Check in the house Juan, I believe the victim is in there. Juan rushes into the apartment as he was instructed and entered the living room which is full of Ryan’s destruction. “Damn, what the hell happen in here? This looks like two wild chicks were going off at each other, shit” he thought to himself. Sheriff Juan searched everywhere in the house but couldn’t find a trace of Chandelle. He was about to give up when he heard something moved. “Who’s there? I said who there?” he walks toward the light switch to turn on the light for a better view. When he did, there she was, lying helplessly on the floor with blood flowing everywhere. “Oh my lord, oh Jesus, larwdy, larwd. Poor little girl has been suffering all along. Sheriff Juan quickly moved toward Chandelle to help her up from the floor; but couldn’t do it all alone so he called up Sheriff Donald.

“Sheriff, I’m gonna need some help with this junk. This young lady is really hurt and needs medical attention as soon as possible.” Chandelle was taken to Collegeville Medical Emergency as the Sheriff recommended.

At the ER, Cherish was put on the side for some questioning.

“Okay Cherry, it is Cherry right?” Juan asked. “It is Cherish sir,” she corrected. “I’m sorry Cherish. So the reason you are here is because we want to help, I want to help you and your friend to be safe as soon as possible so I need to know a few things from you and please be honest. I’m not here to execute you or anything sweetie. Now do you understand?’

“Yes sir’ she answered with fear in her eyes.

“Good, good, that’s great. So what happened Cherish? Why are you guys involved in this messed up event?

“Sir, I really don’t know, I really don’t know.”

“Oh God, help this child answer my questions because I don’t have all night. Sheriff Juan complained.

You see, Sheriff J. is one of those cops who care about people but cannot stand emotional ass chicks. He is a very caring man who has a family of his own; a daughter who is about the age of twenty but still cry like a baby and two troublesome boys who put him through hell every single day. So now, he doesn’t have patient for another crying chicks.

“Sighhhhhhhh…Breath in, breath out, inhale, exhale. C’mon do it with me Cherish because this man right here, right next to you does not have any patience and he had a long day and wish to be at home right now relaxing.” He instructed.

“So are you ready now to answer my questions?”

“Yes sir.”

“Okay good, good, good am listening.” he said impatiently.

“It all started when Chandelle and I were supposed to go out to eat. But I refused to leave the house because I was having doubts. I warned her not to but she didn’t listen and ended up going alone. Later that day, I received a letter which I thought was from her secret admirer and handed to her when she got back. She seemed angry and frustrated. Bu…but… Cherish couldn’t control herself because she was still in shock.

“But what?” the Sheriff asked irritably.

‘But when she read the letter, I heard nothing but a horrifying scream from her bedroom. I ran in there to ask what it was and if she was okay. She was literally in tears and began to tell me that our lives were in danger. I was confused and didn’t know what she talking about. But then, the letter was from Ryan, Damien’s best friend from college. He wanted revenge and we were the victim.”

“So why does he want revenge”? What was the reason? And who’s Damien?”

‘I believe Damien was Chandelle crush back in college. He was madly obsessed with her and stalked her day and night. She was really afraid and I guess we had to move to Collegeville and away from Damien. But he died and we have no idea how, or what killed him. And Ryan wanted revenge because he thinks Chandelle killed Damien.

“Sir, she didn’t do it, she did not kill anyone. Please help us be safe from him,” she begged. “It is ok child, he won’t find you or you guys anymore. As we are talking he’s in prison where his stupid ass belongs,” Sheriff Juan reassured Cherish.

Even though Cherish is reassured of her safety and the safety of her best friend, she was still having doubts and scared of the return of Ryan. She went back to dazing off and thinking about the whole incident all over again. “How can this happen to me, why must my life be in danger simply because a dead guy was once obsessed with Delle, are we really safe now? Would he come back for more? I wonder what’s happening to Delle , hope she didn’t get extremely hurt. I cannot afford to lose the only close person to my heart.”

“Cherish… ma’am…child.” He tried getting her attention but she was lost in thoughts.” hmm um, hello.” He yelled impatiently.

“Yes sir, sorry Sheriff. I’m just thinking about stuff. You know everything. Like why would someone wanna kill us after so many years of struggling and trying so hard to stay away from temptations,” Cherish responded quickly and nervously.

“Look here child, in this world, there will be so many things and so many people who would come after you or might desire something bad to happen to you. There are all kinds of people in this society; we got the psychotics, the gangster wannabes, and the ones who would secretly be in an obsessive love with you; until one day, just one day, they might want to clear you out of their path if you deny them their desires. So you see, we just have to be extra careful and watch our back as we walk late night in the darkness.” He advised Cherish.

Cherish got up and quickly hugged the Sheriff. “Thank you so much again for your help and concern. I really don’t know where or how we would have been right now if you guys never showed up on time.”

“No need for that, it’s my duty to attend to those in trouble. Just be more careful next time by the way, Delle is in room 32. Call me if anything. I will be on my way now. Good day.

“Bye now, good day,” Cherish said as she waved goodbye.

The weather was gloomy that afternoon, it was bright outside but the sun had vanished, the clouds took over and damn it started raining. What is all this about? Could it mean something bad or what!

“Cherish, where are the car keys? Don’t forget we have a date today with the girls. Oh man, I cannot wait to eat at the Chinese; it has been awhile since we went to Sweeten Eat It All.” Chandelle continued.

Look,” Cherish yelled. I’m not sure about this hanging out thing right now. I’m having doubts.”

Come on Cherish, stop playing with me girl and grab your keys. We need to start going; please don’t spoil the day for me sweetheart.”

Just go in the room and take the keys. And to make things clear, you will be going alone, I am not leaving this house this minutes or the next. I am not leaving the house at all.

Fine, fine I will go by myself. Thank you very much, you are extremely wonderful,” Chandelle said sarcastically. “You always have bad feelings or doubts when you are either broke or don’t want to go out. Bye miss I’M HAVING DOUBTS.”

Bye stubborn,” Cherish replied as Chandelle walked out.

Chandelle and Cherish are two best friends who have been living together since college. They both decided few years back to rent an apartment in a small town called Collegeville. They live in a two bedrooms apartment with a little kitchen decorated with white walls, a table that could fit four people, a refrigerator designed with pictures of both of them. There’s a stainless steel wooden floor and hanging lights in the middle of both the kitchen and the living room.

Chandelle went to the backyard where the car was located and tried to start it a few times but it refused to start. So she tried the fifth time and it finally started and she began driving to the Sweeten Eat It All, a Chinese restaurant located at the other side of Collegeville. At the restaurant, Chandelle grabbed a fortune cookie and read the message: your life is in danger, say nothing to anyone, you must leave town as soon as possible and make sure you do not return. Repeat: you must leave town immediately and don’t say nothing.

Wait what the hell is this; I must leave town immediately? What is that supposed to mean. And why should I leave without telling anyone and saying anything? Why is my life in danger? I have not for once offended anyone, murder anyone or picked a fight so why this? I think these Chinese people are trying to play me. So they want to ruin my day as well just like my friend Cherish.” Chandelle wonders to herself as she sits in the tiny wooden chair. No, no, no, and nooo…why am I even stressing about this stupid thing. It’s just a Chinese fortune cookie message,” she continued.

Ma’am are you alright? Excuse me miss are you okay and your food is served.” One of the Chinese workers interrupted her thoughts.” If am not mistaken, you order Cheng Du Chicken, fried rice, ginger beef, shrimp salad and chicken Lo Mein?

Yes I did” Chandelle responded with frustrations in her voice.

Okay that will be thirty dollars and ninety-two cents Ms.”

Chandelle tossed the money on the counter, grabbed the food and ran toward the sign that says: “Parking Permitted to Customers who are willing to buy Chinese ONLY” where she parked the car. She sat in there for about fifteen to twenty minutes thinking about the previous message. She wonders about what should be done. “Should I Run as far away from Collegeville or ignore the stupid message.”

You know what? I think I know exactly what to do. I am going back home where I belong and pretend none of this happened. I would be stupid to run out of my own town and go somewhere…God knows where. This is the worst day of my life. Rain, Cherish and this horrible message from a SO-CALLED fortune cookie,” Chandelle thought to herself.

After purchasing the Chinese food, and sitting in the car for awhile, Chandelle drove home as fast as she could, still terrified and confused about everything that has been going on in the last few hours. As soon as she got home, she ran straight into her bedroom and started crying. “OMG… oh God what am I going to do, if this is true. I don’t really know what’s going on anymore. Why would I be in danger without probable cause?”

Chandelle; girl where are you? I have been waiting for you since you left. Someone brought you a letter.” Cherish yelled from her room on the left side of the kitchen. “Well… but the thing is, I don’t know who it is from…uhmm I think it’s from an anonymous but I would bring it for you to find that out yourself. Delle…where are you? Are you okay, why you came in and didn’t even bother to say hello? Hope you are not still mad at me for dissing you earlier. You know I really didn’t want to go. But if you are still pissed, then I am sorry sweetheart. I promise I will go with you next time; matter of fact the next time we go, it’d be my treat.” Cherish continued on talking and questioning Chandelle.

Cherish I need you to do me a big favor for tonight, okay? Would you do it for me please, I’m begging you.’

What is the favor?”

I need you to shut up for once and stop asking me silly questions.” Delle screamed with anger as if she was going to pop out of her room and choke Cherish.

Okay fine I will leave you alone. But here is your letter or should I say your little note from your secret admirer.”

She threw the note under Delle’s wooden door and walked back to her room.

Delle took the letter from the under the door, opened it and read: “I will take my revenge.” I have not forgotten who you are and what you have caused me. “I WILL TAKE MY REVENGE SOON…In big printed letters and the bottom of the paper; It continues saying. “I will do anything in my power to take revenge on you and anyone close to your heart.”

After reading the note/letter, Chandelle fell on the floor and starts crying and screaming…“NOOOOO.”

What is it hun, why are you shedding tears. What is it Delle? …Talk to me. What did the letter say?”

Cherish I have no idea why someone wants a revenge on me and hurt anyone close to me. I am so scared. I don’t want anything to happen to me, you and to us.”

Cherish was terrified to hear those words coming out of Delle’s mouth. She was shocked till she couldn’t swallow her spit.

Wait…What? What are saying? Someone wants you dead and anyone close to you? No way… I don’t want to die Chandelle. Is this a joke? If it’s then stop okay because I am already tired of laughing.” Cherish was still scared, shocked, and confused but yet being sarcastic.

No Cherish. Stop being sarcastic, I know you are as scared and horrified as I am. Let me tell you something. Do you remember few years ago when we were juniors in college?”

Yes I remember. So what that got to do with everything that’s happening right now.”

Would you shut up and listen to me, Cherish. Anyways during college there was this guy who used to like me a lot…actually love me. He died a few years back before we moved to Collegeville. I believe this letter is from Ryan, his best friend. I heard that he got frustrated and became a drug addict and I guess he thinks I have something to do with his friend’s death. Now he wants revenge because he thinks I murdered his boy for stalking me even thought I didn’t wanted him.”

Oh no. OMG. But did you do it Delle. Did you murder his friend? So is that why we had to move to Collegeville in the first place. So what are we going to do now? What if he comes tomorrow? What if he comes tonight or the next few minutes,” Cherish falls on her kneels as tears flows down her eyes.

I am scared, she said.

God please help us, have mercy upon us. Chandelle please tell me the truth did you killed him. I promise I won’t be mad or leave you. We are best friends and we are supposed to tell each other everything.”

I didn’t do it. I did not kill anyone. I made us move to this town because I was scared Bestie. I didn’t want us to be in danger or be in anyone’s way. I am sorry for putting you through all this trouble. I didn’t mean to I swear, I wouldn’t want you to be hurt because I love you Cherish. You’re the only close person I have left; you are my best friend, my sister and my other half. Please forgive me for everything. I thought leaving and moving to this town would’ve been better but I guess it’s worse. I am so sorry.”

Well I guess we’re going to die right Delle? What option do we have left? You should have told me a long time ago. You never did; not once tell me about a guy loving you in college. All I heard from you was you had a crush and he’s crazy about you and the next thing I know he’s dead. Now we are supposed to pay for what we didn’t do.

I’m sorry please, I am sorry.”

It’s okay I forgive you. There’s nothing I can tell you now. It’s too late. But you are my sister and I love you too. If I have to die along with you, I will. But I don’t want to die. I forgive you sister. But all we need now is 911 to be on the dial.”

As soon Cherish got up to go get the phone from the living room, there was a knock on the back door. It was the lover’s best friend. He was knocking too hard, trying to break the backdoor.

Who’s there?” Cherish questioned with fear. “If you don’t leave I will call the cops. Get away from here or I will shoot you.” She tried to scare him off with threats but that didn’t work.

Umm Chandelle…Chandelle…Delle. There’s someone at the door call the cops right now…call.”

Before the two girls dialed the number, he broke into the house with no questions asked he grabbed onto Chandelle and stabbed her with the knife in his hand. He chopped her into her heart and then ran after Cherish to kill her as well. She was running so fast but fell on the muddy ground and found it hard to get back on her feet.

You think you can escape from here huh? So you can run your mouth and tell the cops. Where are the cops you were threatened to call upon me honey bun? Ohh wait, they are nowhere to be found.” The stranger blah on as he walked toward Cherish. “I will kill you like your friend killed my friend. I’m going to cut you into piece like a child’s cutting the paper with a scissor. You guys murdered my boy back in the days and now you pay for the debt.”

No please don’t kill me. I have nothing to do with the murder, I didn’t even know who your friend was and am sorry he was killed. And matter of fact my friend never killed him either. She didn’t have anything to do with the murder.” The stranger was about to stab Cherish when one of the police shot him on the arms. He fell on the ground and he was handcuffed and taken to prison for ten years.

That Cold Heart Girl

Sometimes, people would judge you and call you whatever they believe you are without knowing the real you. Sometimes, many eyes would look at a girl and call her cold not because of winter, not because they think she is feeling cold and she might need something warm to wear but because she has not been too kind or smile to the world and open her heart to the universe as expected. My question is, have you ever wonder why this girl is so close-minded? Have you ever taken the time to question her about situations and why she acts this way sometimes? I believe your answer is probably “No, not really, I have not gotten the time to do so.” Well, if this is right, then you need not to judge this girl because that girl you called cold heart has been through more than what can fit into that heart. That cold heart has been taking in more than an overflowing bucket of water. The pains and sorrows are filled and there is no more space in that heart for them to survive. As modest as her heart, she has shared it with everyone and everything in this universe. She has been the kindest living thing. That cold heart girl had broken her heart completely to anyone who needed her love without doubts. Her heart might seen small but she has the biggest heart of all. She has a forgiven heart; a substance that will set you free after you have done it so much wrong, a heart that will tell you “it’s all right” after slapping it more than twice. That cold heart has forgiven more people than you have loved and share with. That cold has accepted more pains and disappointments than you could ever imagine that if you have any imagination.

That cold heart girl grew up without her parents by her side till this day.
You called this girl you cold heart? Well, she lived with her mother a quarter of her life, but yet has no clue who she was. That cold heart girl has no idea who her father is or was. She was not supposed to be here today, but God helped her soul. This girl has been cursed, dissed, deceived, lied to, stabbed inside out, and shot many times but she’s still standing. That heart has been tortured, and beaten, it has so much scars; visible and invisible ones. You haven’t thought about all that, have you? Maybe not cause you are so busy being hard on her. Did you ever sit down quietly and wonder why this girl is so strong and has not vanished from this world? Are you able to smile everyday, every second, minute, hour, days when your heart is burning hot? Are you able to live in a place which is bursting out with flames? Burning hot that no water can lower the heat? Are you able to stand these situations, will you survive these events? Look at yourself, I can see you hesitating, shaking your head, speechless and confused. You won’t be able to endure all these events or situations, but this girl with the cold heart did.

She has a place to call home, but what is a home without happiness. What is a home when the only place in that home is your room, where you find solace? There are so many people roaming around from couches to couches yet, no one to share your sorrows, pains, fears, and heart’s desire to? This cold heart girl has no sisters to fight with, laugh with or chase around the house. The ones she has are not really hers because they all have owners. Sometimes she wishes for someone, someone like a parent but who are you kidding. If you are born without a twin, you can never have one, same thing with parents. You were born and have not seen your parents since you were a baby, what makes you think you would have one now. You might run into someone whom you might get close to and referred to you as their sisters or brothers, but in reality, you can never fit into that class because you both know the truth. Outsiders will always tell you apart. Forcing yourself into that family would be like changing your gender and thinking nobody would remember your true identity. You got to be kidding me!
Anyways, why call anyone such names when you do not know them or been in their shoes which would never fit your foot?

See that girl you called cold heart? She had put up with anything this world has to offer. People used to tell her she will get pregnant before she is done with middle school. And guess what? She rebukes it and worked hard to prove these voices wrong. When she got to college, the same voices came down haunting her ever moves. Trying their hardest to break her. They used to whisper in her ears when she is sleeping at night “you are a nobody, you are nothing, get that into your brain. You were born and will always be a nobody, we all know your story, the beginning and the end. Like mother like daughter is what you are bound to be. So stop trying. College is not for you, so don’t you ever waste your time.” Do you hear these voices in your ears while reading them? How do you feel?

During the day, she will grin and laugh with everyone she sees because she was born to please and make everyone equally happy. There are no strangers in her world, everyone is a friend and every friend is a family. She has a heart of a gold, a gold that no other can reach. Despite the pain in her heart, she is strong. She will sacrifice her happiness, so you can be happy. She will lie and say “am not hungry,” so you can eat the food just because she does not want you to go to bed hungry.

That cold heart girl has a heart no other heart can be compared to; she is a warrior because she made it through the storm. She was a nobody but is about to be everybody’s somebody. That somebody who everybody’s going to look up to someday. That cold heart girl has a dream as big as the globe, a dream that will change lives around the universe. She has a dream to put a smile on every sad face, and make the world shine more than it has. So be careful what you say next time you see a young lady who might look like someone with a cold heart. You might just regret your words if you don’t think twice before speaking!

Change of life: Stronger

I have been thinking about myself lately
I’ve been thinking and thinking about stuff
Thinking about me, friends, family, school, and my career
What I want out of this life and the year 2014
Naively, I never knew what I wanted and needed to be the woman
The independent lady, a girl I once was and used to be…
I was a tough girl that no one punks around
I was a strong girl who never love any creature deeply,
With all of her soul, heart and everything she got
But now, I am all of that girl.
I love hard, fall on my face, get beaten emotionally
Until I’m weak and can’t get back up
I fight for those I love and care about but sometimes I feel like am doing too much.
So today I’ve thought about a lot of things & I miss some part of the old me
That girl who used to be so strong, brave and hopeful and never shed a tear. That girl who’s only weapon was the Bible.
But you know what, things are about to change, life is about to move forward instead of the reversal
My life is flowing down by temptations, betrayals, liars, and thieves
And tonight I was in the shower when my heart was touched, when I realized what life is all about
I realized what I’m supposed to do to be that successful, beautiful and loving woman in the upcoming year.
But I’ve not once this week, this month, this year done anything to be that strong independent girl I was
Starting from tonight and this minute, I’m ready to move on, be strong, treat myself right, love myself more and put myself first!
Everyone else that I put before me didn’t appreciated this girl. well not exactly everyone; there are a few who cherished my love and kindness.
From now on am done with the fakes, the exes, the two faces. I’m moving on to better things and be a better person. I’m just saying “I can do better.”
I’m going to make life proud and make some good things out of it.
I’m going to work harder and work toward my future.
So am sorry to those who I won’t talk to anymore. “A hi and how are you is all am going to offer some of y’all. Happy new year and be blessed!
